History

Redlands, California is a city of rich history, with its roots dating back to the late 1800s. It was first established during the Southern California land boom in 1881 by Frank E. Brown and E.G. Judson, with the city formally incorporated on December 3, 1888. Known as the "City of Millionaires" in the late 19th century and the "City of Beautiful Homes" in the early 20th century, Redlands was a hub for the citrus industry. The city was home to the first orange packing houses in California, and you can still find traces of this fruitful past in the remaining groves scattered throughout the city. With an array of historic buildings and landmarks such as the A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Morey Mansion, Redlands has preserved its past and celebrates its history.
